is this a habit yet?

The 1960s is probably one of my favorite decades - a lot happened back then that had an impact directly or indirectly on how our societies are today.

One thing that happened back then was the publication of a book called Psycho Cybernetics written by an American Cosmetic Surgeon, Markelle Maltz.

In that book, Maltz stipulated that:

“It usually requires a minimum of about 21 days to effect any perceptible change in a mental image. People must live in a new house for about three weeks before it begins to “seem like home”. These, and many other commonly observed phenomena tend to show that it requires a minimum of about 21 days for an old mental image to dissolve and a new one to jell.”

Now these words have become so popular over the past 5 decades so much so that they have become the reference point for a common notion and that notion is: it takes 21 days to form a habit.

Do you believe that?

For example, this is my 21st consecutive visual story - meaning I have been composing and publishing these visual stories for 21 days straight - so have I formed a new habit?

Does this mean I have successfully mastered the habit of making these videos?

Personally, I don’t think so. I don’t think I have formed a new habit just yet because I believe it takes time - more than 21 days - to really make something a habit. Habit forming is a continuous process not an event. So I think instead of focusing on when I have mastered this as a habit, I will work on being more consistency creatively.

But hey, if you say this is a habit now, I’ll take that too.
