sooner or later part 3
In 1879, at the age of 15, James Allen lost his dad. Some say he was murdered, some say he committed suicide. However it may have actually happened, the death of his dad motivated James Allen to step out and began his career as a framework knitter and a journalist.
He struggled his way through and by the age of 38, 9 years before his eventual death, James Allen published his third book titled As A Man Thinketh. The book was loosely based on Proverbs 23:7 which reads: "As a man thinketh in his heart, so is he.”
The book became his most successful publication and brought him posthumous fame. In the book, Allen explores topical issues like spirituality and the power of thoughts - basically things that go on in our subconscious mind.
There is a line in that book that reads “a man sooner or later discovers that he is the master-gardener of his soul, the director of his life.”
I always felt like that line has something to do with Allen’s life. His father’s death made him realize that he had to take some form of control over his actions and future. He had to make a decisive step to work and nurture his passion for writing. He had to be the master-gardener of his soul.
Allen died at the young age of 47. Unfortunately, he didn’t live long to enjoy the fruits of the labours as a writer but imagine if he never took that step to begin writing.
Sooner or later, you have to take a step.
