lists and spontaneity

I have this habit of writing to-do lists most mornings on what I want to get done that day. Infact, creating this story is something I ticked off a list today.

The lists are helping. They help me to track my progress and I think I have gotten to a point where it is difficult to work on a new task in the middle of the day that wasn’t on my list at the beginning of the day.

What I mean is, in some ways, lists are making me less spontaneous.

I think the reason people like me enjoy making lists is that it removes chaos and adds order to our lives but as a creative person, I am supposed to be a free thinker, to an extent.

How can a free thinker work with lists?
How can a creative person live an orderly life?
How can I find the balance between using lists and being spontaneous?

If you have any ideas, let me know in the comments.
